The Dragon Core

Daeron married Catelyn in secret and left to seek his destiny. He returns as Prince of Dragon Isle—but they only see rags and laugh. His dragon core is fed to a dog, which transforms into a young dragon. At the victory banquet where they intend to betray him, Gareth kneels and proclaims him "Your Highness." The man they despised is the prince who will rule them all.
