The Joke They Told

Lucas and Maddie spent years making Elena Bennett's prosthetic leg their favorite joke. After they crossed the final line, Elena walked away, built a new life in New York, and never looked back. When she returns, she finds them both destroyed. Elena rises above them, refusing to forgive or forget, and forces them to see the woman they mocked—standing taller than they ever could. They laughed at her limp. She is walking away with everything they lost.
